Maui"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The sleepy village of Hana, Maui is well-off the beaten path for most visitors. \u00a0Although it gets its fair share of day trippers, by end of day, the lights dim and the dark sky plays host to brilliant stars and romantic moonlight.<\/p>\n<p>Hana is accessible via State highway 360, the infamous Hana Highway; and, by commuter plane from Kahului (Mokulele Airways). \u00a0The long and winding road, about 53 miles, takes approximately 2 hours to drive. \u00a0The flight from Kahului, about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_0039.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-98 aligncenter\" alt=\"IMG_0039\" src=\"http:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_0039-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_0039-300x224.jpg 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hana town has two general stores, Hasegawa&#8217;s and The Hana Store. \u00a0Both carry a good selection of grocery items, beer and wine, hardware, etc. \u00a0The stores are open daily until 7:30 pm. \u00a0There is one gas station, Hana Chevron which is open daily until at least 7:30 pm.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/mokai3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-99 aligncenter\" alt=\"mokai3\" src=\"http:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/mokai3.jpg\" width=\"324\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/mokai3.jpg 324w, https:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/mokai3-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 324px) 100vw, 324px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are two restaurants, the Hana Ranch Restaurant and the dining room at Travaasa Hotel Hana. \u00a0Both serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. \u00a0Best to call for precise times and for reservations. \u00a0There are also numerous street vendors with food stalls ranging from local style plate lunches to Thai and Mexican food. \u00a0You&#8217;ll see these as you make your way through the village.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_0209.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-100 aligncenter\" alt=\"IMG_0209\" 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When you&#8217;re ready to hit the beach, Hamoa is generally regarded as Hana&#8217;s best. \u00a0It is located approximately 2 miles south of the town center. \u00a0Another beautiful beach in the same area is Koki Beach, although noted for it&#8217;s treacherous riptide. \u00a0The black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park is stunning and is also the start of some beautiful coastal hiking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_0087.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-101 aligncenter\" alt=\"IMG_0087\" src=\"http:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_0087-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For sightseeing, be sure to visit Kahanu Gardens which is part of the National Botanical Gardens of the Pacific. \u00a0Here you will find Hawai&#8217;i&#8217;s largest ancient temple,\u00a0<em>Pi&#8217;ilanihale<\/em>. \u00a0A visit to Hana would not be complete without journeying south to Haleakala National Park-Kipahulu Division. \u00a0The famed &#8220;Seven Sacred Pools&#8221;&#8211;more accurately called Ohe&#8217;o Gulch, offers exquisite bamboo forests and fresh water pools and waterfalls along a 2+ mile hike.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pono.kula.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_2273.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-102 alignleft\" alt=\"IMG_2273\" &#8220;backside&#8221; of Haleakala, through the village of Kaupo and onward to Ulupalakua is worth the effort for a glimpse of the dry-side of the island. \u00a0The seascapes and mountain vistas are life one day at a time. \u00a0There are no fast food franchises, no malls, no traffic lights&#8230; \u00a0It truly is the last Hawaiian place and the heart of old Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p><a
